Principal's Message
Dear Parents and Guardians,
On behalf of the faculty and staff of Hazard Middle School, I would like to welcome you and your student to the 2014-15 school year. This is my first year as your Principal, and I feel that I should give you a little personal background and how I would like impact your child’s future. I am a proud graduate of Hazard High School's Class of 1996 and understand the pride that comes with wearing the blue and gold. I was hired as one of the Social Studies teachers at Hazard High School in 2009 and that year I also became the assistant varsity baseball coach. I really enjoyed my time in the classroom working with the social studies curriculum and the use of new technology in the classroom.
My goal as principal is to get to know your child and meet and greet them every day. I want your child to enjoy their time as an HMS student along with getting the skills they need to be successful and independent. In today’s culture of schools, so much importance is put on test scores to show if we are successful or if we need improvement, but our staff will work hard to make sure your child is not just a stat or number but a middle school student willing to grow inside and outside the classroom. My vision is to create a positive school environment where every student, teacher, faculty member, and community volunteer has the ability to grow and prosper within our school system. Students will have every opportunity to grow academically and socially within our school’s curriculum and technology advances. Our staff will continue to gain knowledge through these new technologies, weekly Professional Learning Community meetings, and Professional Development trainings to give them the opportunity to grow their ability to instruct our students. Our staff will always set high academic standards for all children and provide the measures necessary for your child to meet these standards.
I want all students to be just as proud as I am to be a member of the Bulldog Nation. I am confident that this will be an outstanding year. I encourage all parents, students, teachers, and community members to become actively involved in our school. There are many volunteer opportunities available with clubs, activities, and athletic teams for students to join and others to support
Here's looking forward to a great year for everyone at Hazard Middle School!
Mr. Kevin Combs
