"Christmas Comes to HMS" Contributing Writer: Silas Roll - HMS Student Leadership Team Member Gingerbread castles, an inflatable Nutcracker, and Area Fifty-One! Now, that's Christmas themed, and this is just the main floor of Hazard Middle School. The teachers and staff of Hazard Middle School have worked really hard to make the school look like a Christmas Winter Wonderland this holiday season. On the top floor, students and teachers alike have decorated the hallways as well, in a "Classic Christmas" theme, with lockers covered with wrapping paper, lights strung overhead, and each door decorated to represent a classic Christmas movie. This has made the students of HMS feel great, being able to help decorate the school and take part in bringing Christmas to life in the halls of HMS. Students have been overjoyed to see the school filled with decorations like trees, gingerbread men, and an abundance of wrapping paper.

🎄🎶Hazard Middle School's 6th graders spread Christmas cheer at Hazard Health and Rehabilitation Center. Students shared handmade cards and lifted spirits by singing Christmas carols for residents. Eighth grader Ken treated residents to beautiful violin solos of Christmas carols. We are proud of our students for showing empathy, kindness, and a strong commitment to community engagement! 💚♥️

Kentucky Youth Assembly 2025 is officially in the books! KYA is the Commonwealth's premier hands-on civic engagement experience, immersing students in the Legislative, Judicial, and Executive branches of Kentucky state government. Over three action-packed and demanding days, students navigated a rigorous schedule that deepened their understanding of the democratic process. Our students didn't just rise to the challenge-they excelled! Hazard Middle School returned home proud recipients of several prestigious honors. We were awarded the Premier Delegation Award, recognizing that our school met all conference requirements and that our students, advisors, and chaperones exemplified the YMCA's four core values: Honesty, Caring, Respect, and Responsibility. HMS also earned the BEST NEW DELEGATION Award for outstanding participation, exceptional preparedness, and exemplary behavior. In addition, we are thrilled to celebrate Evan Johnson, who was named OUTSTANDING DELEGATE for his leadership and contributions. We are exhausted-but incredibly proud and elated. A heartfelt thank you to Mrs. Brashear, Mr. Hall, and Mrs. Pulliam for their guidance and support throughout this unforgettable experience. Thank you to Mr. Hurt and Mrs. Combs for allowing us this learning opportunity.
